Childhood Circles Mural

C/ Padre Francisco Rodríguez Gallego

The image takes us back to a time when children filled the village streets playing games such as marbles — a pastime that blended skill with camaraderie. In the cool, cobbled streets, they gathered around small circles drawn on the ground, while laughter and excitement became part of everyday life. This memory evokes the simplicity of an outdoor childhood, where shared traditions and games strengthened the bonds between friends and neighbours.

Weaving Traditions Mural

In the past, working with enea and esparto was a fundamental activity for many people in the village. Using these natural fibres, gathered and processed by hand, they crafted essential items such as baskets, rugs, chairs and everyday utensils. This craft, which required skill and patience, was not only a source of livelihood but also a tradition passed down from generation to generation. The artisanal work with enea and esparto reflects a deep connection with nature and the creativity of those who lived in harmony with their surroundings.

Sewing Women Mural

C/ Padre Francisco Rodríguez Gallego

In earlier times, women would gather in the streets to sew together, taking advantage of the daylight and creating a space for companionship and mutual support. Among threads and needles, on summer afternoons when the air cooled, they shared conversations, laughter and everyday experiences, strengthening community bonds. These gatherings highlight the importance of collaborative work and togetherness in daily life, as the village streets filled with life and with moments that wove not only garments, but also shared stories and memories.

Biodiversity Mural

Cartajima’s rich biodiversity is reflected here through the presence of plant species typical of the region, which bloom across the local fields and hillsides. These native flowers not only beautify the landscape but also attract a wide variety of Mediterranean insects, such as bees and butterflies, which are essential for pollination. Among them are the butterflies depicted on this facade: Papilio machaon, Iphiclides feisthamelii, Colotis evagore and Pieris brassicae.
Flora and fauna are interconnected, creating a vibrant and balanced ecosystem that defines the natural richness of Cartajima’s surroundings.

Spring is a magical season in the Genal Valley. Blossoms and the scent of fresh countryside create an unparalleled panorama. Wild roses, daisies, poppies and irises, among many others, paint a landscape of contrasts well worth visiting. Added to this is the multitude of uses and healing properties of these plants, whose origins date back to ancient traditions.
