Mosto Tasting Mural
C/ Padre Francisco Rodríguez Gallego
The mosto tasting in our village is a tradition that celebrates the winemaking heritage we are proud to preserve. Each autumn, neighbours produce this young wine in an artisanal way, maintaining techniques passed down from generation to generation. During the tasting, families and visitors gather to sample the mosto, accompanied by local products and a festive atmosphere. This event not only highlights the value of our vineyards — recovered after the phylloxera outbreak — but also the sense of unity and joy that comes from sharing our traditions in the heart of the Genal Valley.
Virgin of the Rosary Mural
C/ Padre Francisco Rodríguez Gallego
Every August 15th, Cartajima devoutly celebrates the procession of the Virgin of the Rosary, the patron saint of the village. On this day, locals and visitors come together to accompany the image through the streets, adorned with a festive atmosphere full of flowers and lights. This procession, deeply rooted in Cartajima’s identity, reflects the community’s faith and unity in one of its most heartfelt celebrations.
The Pantry Mural
C/ Nueva
In the past, our village had a pantry similar to this one, where neighbours would go to buy their basic foods and local products. On its shelves one could find artisanal chacinas made following recipes passed down through generations, chestnuts gathered from nearby forests, homemade liqueurs, fresh milk and other traditional foods. This corner not only invites you to enjoy the region’s native products, but also connects you with the essence of a simple and authentic way of life, where each product tells a story tied to the land and its people.
Open Door Mural
C/ Iglesia
The open door is a symbol of the hospitality and trust that once defined life in our village, when the doors of homes remained open, reflecting the closeness among neighbours. Surrounded by flowers, it evokes the beauty and care of Andalusian courtyards, with their vibrant colours and fresh aromas. The traditional whitewashed houses, with their facades and details inherited from Arab architecture, complete this scene that transports us to a past filled with simple living, harmony and community.
Popular Games Mural
Passageway between C/ Ronda and C/ Iglesia
In the past, the village streets were the main setting for children’s games, such as hopscotch — a traditional game drawn with chalk on the ground that symbolises the innocence and joy of childhood, when children spent their afternoons laughing and playing. It reminds us of a time when the streets were lively, safe spaces filled with moments that would stay in our memories forever.
Today, the streets of small villages are much more than paths of stone and cobblestones; they are corners of laughter, shared dreams and unhurried games. In these places where time seems to stand still, children run freely, invent imaginary worlds and discover the magic of friendship around every corner.
In every ray of sunlight that brightens their steps, and every breeze that brushes their faces, childhood is lived without barriers — like a whisper of freedom that turns every street into a stage for unforgettable adventures.
Because playing in the street is not just a pastime; it is a way of feeling, growing and treasuring memories that will last forever.
