Murals Route

Creative Facades Route
Rural life, traditions, culture and nature.

In the summer of 2020, Cartajima filled its streets with colour through the ‘Creative Facades’ project. Four young local artists created a dozen murals that beautify the village with scenes inspired by rural life. This initiative by the Town Hall aims not only to enhance the appearance of the historic centre, but also to promote tourism by inviting residents and visitors to discover this unique artistic walk.

Farm Tools Mural

C/ Ronda, at the entrance to Cartajima

This mural stands out for the breadth of its lemon tree, but perhaps what draws the most attention are the traditional farm tools — implements once used for cultivating and maintaining the fields.

Mural Aperos de Labranza
Mural Nuestros Insectos
Our Insects Mural

C/ Iglesia

Located opposite the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary and painted on the façade of the Cartajima Town Hall, this mural brings us closer to the surrounding nature, where we find ourselves surrounded by small insects.
Will you be able to find the 17 little critters hidden in it?

Jars Mural

C/ Iglesia

Recalling another era, the clay jars and pitchers were essential items in every household. All made of clay, with different mouth sizes and widths, they were closed with wooden lids for the larger ones and cork stoppers for the smaller ones, and were used to store oil, water or food.

Mural Tinajas
Mural Buganvilla
Bougainvillea Mural

C/ Padre Francisco Rodríguez Gallego

In front of us is the plant commonly known as bougainvillea, papelillo or Santa Rita. It is a climbing shrub that can grow anywhere from one to twelve metres high and thrives in almost any terrain. The placement of this painted plant in this beautiful corner pays homage to the one that stood here for many years.

The Mosto Mural

C/ Calvario

Reviving the past, this mural refers to the countryside, featuring real objects: a hand plough and a chimbiri, and also to the grape harvest and the production of mosto in our village. Although the vineyards were affected by phylloxera in the past, they have now been recovered by local residents, but only for private use.
